As the year comes to a close, it’s a good time to review your family’s financial goals and ensure you’re making the most of your savings opportunities. Taking a few small steps now — like contributing to your RESP or making charitable donations — can help ensure you start 2026 on strong financial footing.

Consider the following key areas:

  • RESP contribution deadline: The deadline to be eligible for matching government contributions is December 31, 2025.
  • Charitable Donations: Keep all donation receipts and make charitable donations before December 31 to qualify for this year’s tax credit, as receipts can be claimed for up to five years if not used in the current year.
  • RRIF Preparation: If you turn 71 in 2026, consider starting your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)-to-Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) planning early.
  • Tax-Loss Selling: Review your portfolio and consider using losses to offset gains.

Important reminder

The 2026 TFSA contribution limit is $7,000. Start planning ahead and contact us to make contributions after January 1, 2026.    Please visit the CRA website for more details.
