Planning Ahead for 2026 – Your Year-End Checklist
As we approach the end of the year, December is a strategic time to reflect on your financial goals, review your accounts, and prepare for 2026. Year-end planning is more than meeting deadlines - it’s about doing what you can to help set yourself up for success in the year ahead. In this edition, I've highlighted some key areas for your consideration.
Below are key areas to consider:
- Prepare for 2026 Contributions - If you plan to contribute to your TFSA, RRSP, or RESP (Footnote 1) next year, now is a great time to review your available contribution room.
- Consider Charitable Giving - Eligible charitable donations made before year-end may qualify for tax credits, potentially lowering your tax bill.
- Long-Term Planning - If you will turn 71 in 2026, December is the time to prepare for converting your RRSP to a RRIF by year-end.
Important reminder before December 31:
- Finalize TFSA and RESP contributions for 2025.
- Make charitable donations to claim 2025 credits.
- Begin preparing documents for 2025 tax filing.
